When Does Stroke Rehabilitation Start?

Stroke Rehab begins when you are still in the hospital. After leaving, you can continue treatment at a rehab center or at home. Most stroke rehabilitation programs offer at least 3 hours of therapy a day for 5 or 6 days a week.

It is important to start rehab as soon as possible because patients have the greatest chance of regaining their abilities during the first few months after a stroke.

One of the key aspects of rehabilitation and therapy is taking steps that will prevent a future stroke from occurring.  This requires the patient remain in good health and may also involve taking certain medicines or making some lifestyle changes. Our home healthcare professionals will work with you to decide what type of diet, exercise or other lifestyle choices are best for you.

How Long Does Stroke Rehabilitation Take?

For most individuals who suffer from a stroke, rehab is a lifelong process. While recovery is most significant within the first few months after suffering a stroke, you can continue getting better for years.  Recovery can be a frustrating, slow process and so it is very important to keep a positive outlook on it all.  Do everything that is necessary to get better and relieve yourself from pain if need be.  DP Home Healthcare’s stroke rehabilitation team will help you in as many ways as it can.
